In this specification comparison article, we put the upcoming rumoured Yamaha MT-15 naked performance bike vs KTM Duke 125, the baby Duke.
Yamaha is planning to launch its new performance oriented motorcycle, MT-15 in the Indian markets. As per the ongoing speculations, it could be launched in this month.
Yamaha R15 V3 was the most affordable performance bike till now, until came the KTM Duke 125. Now, the baby Duke is the most affordable performance oriented. But, Duke is a naked bike and R15 is a pure sports bike.
So, if MT-15 comes into play, it will fit as a perfect competitor for Duke 125. Both are naked bikes with performance on their mind.
So, let’s put Yamaha MT-15 against KTM Duke 125 to know which one is a better choice.
Yamaha MT-15 Vs KTM Duke 125 – Price

MT-15 is expected to be priced in a similar range of R15 V3, at around Rs 1.3 Lakhs. The Duke is priced at Rs 1.18 Lakhs, making it a cheaper option.
Even if the MT-15 is priced at Rs 1.3 Lakhs, the least expected difference between both the bikes is Rs 12,000. If the price of MT-15 is higher, then pricing may play a big role.

MT-15 gets the 155cc liquid-cooled SOHC engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) system. The engine produces 19.3 BHPand 14.8 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with slip and clutch assist.
Duke 125 gets a smaller 124.6cc liquid-cooled engine that produces 14.5 BHP and 12 Nm of peak torque. Duke also gets a 6-speed gearbox.
Obviously, MT-15 will deliver higher power figures. A regular 150cc motorcycle would deliver power figures nearing to Duke 125. But the VVA system swoops in to deliver more power.

Duke 125 gets a slightly bigger fuel tank of 10.2 Litres. With the estimated mileage of 48 kmpl, the riding range of this bike should also be nearing 500 kms. The top speed achievable on Duke is 110 km/hr.

Duke 125 gets Upside-Down forks at the front and a rear mono shock at the back, just like Duke 200. It gets front and rear disc brakes with a single-channel ABS for braking. Here, it misses out on the rear ABS and gets Rear Lift-Off Protection instead.
Yamaha MT-15 Vs KTM Duke 125 – Design
Talking about the design, MT-15 looks a lot like the elder MT motorcycles. The typical aggressive and muscular styling paired with sharp creased body will attract a lot of people.
On the other hand, Duke 125 still follows the teenage dream with loud decals, funky graphics and the orange alloy wheels. It does not mean that Duke 125 looks boring. Duke 125 certainly is amongst the most styling motorcycles under Rs 1.5 Lakhs.
Summarizing, MT-15 looks a bit mature which will attract the millennial as well as a mature buyer. Duke 125 will find more buyers in the youth, probably under the age of 25.
Going by the engine specifications and the price speculations, we believe MT-15 will give a tough competition to Duke 125. The pricing range is not that different and so are the power figures.
The feature list is also similar, with Duke missing out LED lights and rear ABS. However, Duke still gets a advantage over MT-15 because of its trademark exhaust note. That’s what a lot of people are mad about.
Check out the list of upcoming new Yamaha bikes in India. Most of the bikes from this list are expected to be launched in India in 2019-20 timeline.

Yamaha MT-15 was recently showcased in Thailand, where it might replace the M-Slaz naked bike. Reports suggest that the naked streetfighter version of R15 might launch in India by 2019. Yamaha R15 is the most affordable performance motorcycle and this might be another performance motorcycle from Yamaha. It will go against the likes of KTM Duke 200 because MT-15 will be priced higher than usual 150cc bikes. We expect a price range of around Rs 1.3 Lakhs or so. It will also be equipped with Anti-Braking safety feature.
The MT-03 is a naked version of the YZF-R3. So, minus the fairing, it is the same as the R3. This means a 321cc parallel-twin engine powers the MT-03 and makes 42BHP power and 30Nm torque. This engine will be paired to a 6-speed gearbox. The MT-03 borrows its styling cues from bigger bikes such as the MT-09. In the features department, this bike will likely come with ABS as standard equipment. Yamaha may give it a slipper clutch too but the likelihood of that happening is low. Expect this bike to come to India in Black and Blue colours sometime in 2019. Its competition will include BMW G310R and KTM Duke 390.

2019 Yamaha R3 will receive minor visual upgrades to make it look sportier than the current gen. It will receive revisions to the front portion, its trademark gills and will sort a bigger air intake. The alloy wheels and the rest of the body remain the same. It will continue with dual-channel ABS, LED headlamps and its twin-cylinder 321cc engine. The engine produces 41.4 BHP and 29.6 Nm of peak torque. The prices will increase by a little margin.
The NMax scooter was showcased by Yamaha at 2016 Auto Expo. The company will likely bring it to India to compete against the likes of Aprilia SR 150. In this application, the fuel-injected 155cc engine of the NMax will make 15BHP power and 14.4Nm torque. Paired with a CVT automatic gearbox, this scooter should be quite zippy. Incidentally, this 155cc engine will also perform duties on the YZF-R15 V3.0.
The new 100cc bike from Yamaha will likely come during the festive season of 2017. This bike will likely replace the Saluto RX in Yamaha’s India lineup. Using the same engine as the Saluto RX, this bike will likely have power and torque outputs of 9BHP and 9Nm, respectively. Expect to see this bike sport a 4-speed gearbox.

The new 100cc scooter from Yamaha will likely be a replacement for the Cygnus Alpha scooter. The sales of the Cygnus Alpha have not been as great as Yamaha would have liked while the Fascino has been doing quite nicely. So, the new 100cc scooter will likely draw styling inspiration from the Fascino. However, its proportions will likely be similar to the Cygnus Alpha. It will likely sport the same 113cc carbureted engine as on the Cygnus Alpha and will likely make 9BHP power and 9Nm torque with an automatic gearbox onboard. This scooter will likely rival the Activa 110 from Honda and Jupiter from TVS.

The third-generation iteration of the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has finally made its debut in India. It is based on Suzuki’s lightweight HEARTECT platform, the new Wagon R is longer, wider and as a result of this, offers more space on the inside, both for the passengers as well as their luggage. In a first in the history of Wagon R, Maurti Suzuki has introduced this car with two engine options, the existing 1.0-litre along with the Swift’s 1.2-litre unit.
As a result of this, it has become the only Maruti car in India to retail with two different engines of the same fuel. All that said, it will not be a smooth sailing for the tall-boy from Maruti. This is because it will face stiff competition from its arch rival, the Hyundai Santro, which too received a major generation update last year. That said, Hyundai is also offering a 5-speed AMT unit as well. This economical automatic gearbox is available only on the mid-spec Magna and Sportz variants.

These will be the LXI, VXI and the VXI with AGS.

This engine will come as standard with a 5-speed manual gearbox. However, it can be opted along with a 5-speed AMT unit as well. This engine is going to be available on a total of four trim levels. 2018 Hyundai Santro Vs 2019 Maruti Wagon R- Mileage
With its new platform and the use of the same 1.1-litre, 4-cylinder Epsion engine, the new Santro promises an ARAI certifies fuel efficiency figure of 20.3 km/l.
Expect the 2019 iteration of the Maruti Wagon R to offer a mileage figure of around 20 km/l. In real world driving condition, this number can stand around the mark of around 16-18 km/l.
2018 Hyundai Santro Vs 2019 Maruti Wagon R- Exteriors
From the outside, this third generation iteration of the Santro is completely different from its earlier generations. Its exterior design is based on Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 philosophy. Hence, you get a very sharp yet sophisticated persona. Up-front, you get a large grille, Hyundai’s cascading grille design. The side profile with the slight kink on the rear window makes it look quite youthful. At the back, Hyundai has kept things simple yet elegant. The square tail-lamps looks very basic but couple them to the otherwise sharp creaes, the whole rear fascia looks quite appealing.
Coming to the new Wagon R, with this generation update, it will continue to retain its tall-boy design. Going by the spy shots of the test mule, it seems that there is no change in terms of the vehicle’s overall silhouette. Expect the new Wagon R to come with an aggressive front fascia. We believe that the 2018 Wagon R could even take its design inspiration from the Suzuki Solio. This vehicle is currently on sale in Japan. And was recently seen testing on Indian roads.
2018 Hyundai Santro Vs 2019 Maruti Wagon R- Interiors
In typical Hyundai fashion, the interiors of the Santro feature a very sophisticated look. In order to keep things interesting, the dashboard comes with an augmented layout. The dual-tone colour scheme adds premiums to the cabin. And the ‘elephant inspired’ centre console gets looks quite nice as well. Overall the touch and feel of the cabin are quite nice, something which you expect from an Hyundai nevertheless.
Coming to the new Wagon R, we expect the cabin to get a major overhaul. The design will remain neat and simple. Just like the current spec version, it will have plenty of storage space onboard. In addition to this, the interiors will be roomy enough to accommodate 5 people. The quality and finish of the materials are going to be decent. We expect Maruti to stick to a single tone colour scheme for the cabin. Likely to be primarily black in nature with several silver accents.
2018 Hyundai Santro Vs 2019 Maruti Wagon R- Features
Hyundai is known for offering top-of-the-line features across its product line-up. And despite the Santro being an entry-level product, it gets a very decent feature list.
Touchscreen Infotainment system
Android Auto
Apple Car Play
Fog-Lamps
Rear Washer Wiper
Power Windows
Rear Air-con vents
Electrically adjustable ORVMs
The new Maruti Wagon R 2019 is also expected to feature a good deed of features and creature comforts. It is likely to feature:

Maruti Suzuki of-late has been providing all its recent launches with several safety features as standard. However, considering the fact that the Wagon R falls in the compact segment, will Maruti cut back on the safety equipment list like Hyundai did with the Santro? The feature list is likely to include:
The premium compact SUV segment in India now has an all-new entry, the Tata Harrier SUV. It is based on a platform which has been derived from Land Rover’s D8 architecture. The Harrier comes with a unique exterior design in addition to a feature-loaded cabin and that too at a very aggressive price point. As a result of which, this SUV is going to stand shoulder to shoulder with the competition. And talking about that, the heaviest competition it will face is going to be from the Jeep Compass.
While the Harrier will only retail with a diesel engine and that too only with a manual gearbox, the Jeep Compass will have an upper hand as it comes in both petrol as well as diesel guises and also offers an automatic gearbox in its portfolio. In addition to this, the time time of its launch, the Harrier is not going to get a four-wheel drive system. However, the Compass offers the same in select variants. All that said, the Harrier scores better in terms of its interior quality, comfort and equipment levels. All in all, this rivalry is going to be a tough one.

It will be bought to India as a CKD unit, that’s why the premium pricing. The bookings for the bike began last month and currently, it faces a waiting period of 3 months.
The bike is available only in 1 variant but with 2 colour options – Matte Axis Gray Metallic & Candy Chromosphere Red. The bikes are available only at the 22 Honda Wing World dealerships across the country.
In this price range, it competes with the likes of KTM Duke 390. However, it has a lot more to offer than the Honda CB300R.
So, let’s put CB300R Vs Duke 390 to see which one is the better at this price.

CB300R is 2028mm long, 888mm wide and 1053mm tall. The ground clearance stands at 155mm and the wheelbase at 1344mm. It gets a low seat-height of 800mm. The bike weighs 147 kgs, which is somewhat lighweight.

Duke 390, on the other hand, is completely modern and funky to be precise. In front of it, the Honda bike looks a lot mature and calm. Duke’s heavy graphics, exposed trellis frame, orange alloy wheels and the Robo LED headlamps display that it is a beast and not a calm person.
Summing up, CB300R is a classy and elegant motorcycle, but Duke 390 is a funky, sporty and millenial-biased motorcycle.

Yamaha has finally launched the much awaited MT-15 naked streetfighter in India. At a price of Rs 1.36 Lakhs (ex-showroom), it goes against the likes of TVS Apache RTR 200 4V, KTM Duke 125 and Bajaj Pulsar NS200.
MT-15 is basically the naked version of the R15 V3. Both use the same engine, chassis, suspension and braking parts. However, while the R15 V3 is a sportsbike with a dedicated riding position, the MT-15 offers a better relaxed riding posture.
We have finally ridden the newly launched bike at the Buddh International Circuit. Check out the first ride review and the quick walkaround video too.

Yamaha MT-15 Vs TVS Apache RTR 200 4V – Design
MT-15 takes heavy inspiration from the elder MT siblings, like the MT-09. The typical naked streetfighter looks are perfectly inherited. The sharp creases and the heavy tank extensions are catchy for the eyes.
At the front, it gets its trademark Bug-shaped LED headlamps. The headlamps give it the name – The Dark Warrior. The alloy wheels and the exhaust muffler are borrowed from R15 V3, as they are different from the international-spec.
TVS Apache RTR 200 4V on the other side is a fresh design and not inspired by another TVS bike. Unlike the mature styling of MT-15, Apache looks funky and more stylish.
The overall design between both the bikes is not much different, as both are naked streetfighters. Apache gets sculpted headlamps with DRLs with a small visor atop, an engine cowl, double barrel exhaust muffler and the race-derived split seats.
Overall, both the bikes look sport and style fused together. It’sjust that MT-15 is a bit mature and Apache is a bit loud and funky.
Yamaha MT-15 Vs TVS Apache RTR 200 4V – Performance
Comparing both the bikes, we felt the MT-15 to be a more energetic bike. The shorter gears and the super quick acceleration is much applauded. It’s not like RTR 200 isn’t swift, just that the Yamaha motorcycle is a bit better.
On the highways, Apache has an advantage of being a bigger capacity motorcycle. At triple speeds, Apache is comfortable, without any stress. However, the MT-15 records a higher top speed of nearly 131 km/hr.
Summing up, both are perfect bikes for the daily city commuting as well as a quick speed run on the stretches.

Best Mileage Cars in India with Prices, Specifications
The new Maruti Suzuki Swift’s diesel variant promises to give out a mileage of 28.4 kmpl. The 2018 Swift is based on Suzuki’s new HEARTECH platform. This has helped the hatchback lose close to 90 kgs of weight with this new generation model. The diesel engine in question is the same 1.3-litre DDiS motor. The engine is capable of producing 74 BHP along with 190 NM of peak torque. This time around, along with the 5-speed manual unit, the Swift also gets a 5-speed AGS transmission.
The new Dzire, with a claimed fuel efficiency of 28.4 KMPL has snatched the second spot from the Ciaz. Despite using the same 1.3 L Diesel engine as the model it replaces, the latest generation of the popular sedan is more efficient thanks to the new, lighter HEARTECT platform. There are 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT option on offer. The all-new Dzire will go on sale on May 16, 2017.
Maruti’s mid-size sedan offering, the Ciaz has been relegated to the third spot on the Best Mileage Cars in India list. It is one of the most fuel-efficient sedans on sale in India. The Ciaz Diesel has an ARAI certified mileage of 28 kmpl. These figures are better than the Honda City. No surprise, then, that the Ciaz has even outsold the City. The Ciaz has been a really successful model for Maruti Suzuki.
In fourth place on our list of the best mileage cars in India is another Maruti. The Baleno shares its engine with the Swift. However, it returns a higher mileage of 27.39 kmpl. This is thanks to a lower kerb weight. The car is marketed as a premium hatchback and is sold through the new Nexa sales channel. It has been very well received by the Indian car buying lot as evident from its strongest monthly sales and a waiting period of around 6 months.
Honda has left no stone unturned for the Jazz’s second stint in India. This time around the Jazz is cheaper than before and comes with a diesel engine option as well. This diesel motor, shared with the Amaze, Mobilio and City, returns an ARAI certified mileage of 27.3 kmpl. Which makes it the third most fuel-efficient car in India, behind the Maruti Ciaz and Maruti Celerio diesel DDiS 125. The Jazz is a direct rival to Hyundai’s Elite i20, but, although it boasts higher mileage figures, it hasn’t been able to match the i20’s popularity. The 1.5-litre iDTEC diesel motor powering the new model Honda Jazz is good for 100PS power and 200Nm torque, but it is let down by high NVH levels.
Tata’s latest hatchback, the Tiago, and it’s 1.05 L diesel mill return a claimed mileage of 27.28 kmpl. Launched at a starting price of just INR 3.2 lacs, the Tiago competes with the likes of the Celerio, Beat, Brio, etc. Although the Celerio Diesel is marginally more fuel efficient, it also sports a smaller 800 cc engine that is less powerful than the Tiago’s 1.05 L unit. Tata is betting big on the Tiago as it hopes this new hatchback can help it claw back some of the market shares they have lost over the years and is one of the Best mileage cars in India should definitely help.

At number 7 on our list of the best mileage cars in India is the 2019 Honda Civic. Launched in India after a substantial gap after the discontinuation of the 8th generation model, the 10th generation iteration comes with a diesel engine under its hood. This engine is the same 1.6-litre unit which currently performs its duty on the Honda CR-V. This engine is capable of churning out 120 BHP of power along with 300 Nm of peak torque. It is paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard.
At almost Rs. 40 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the Toyota Prius is the most expensive car on our list of the best mileage cars in India. Thanks to a hybrid powertrain, the Prius returns 26.27 KMPL overall according to ARAI test figures. The 1.8 L petrol + 53 kW Electric Motor setup has a combined output of 122 PS.
Ford launched the Figo twins in 2015. Both these cars are easily one of the best in their respective segments. Powering the Diesel variants is the brilliant 1.5 L TDCi engine that churns out 99 BHP and 215 Nm that delivers not just good performance, but great mileage as well. The hatchback and sedan siblings boast of an ARAI rated mileage of 25.83 kmpl.
The Honda Amaze used to be the fuel efficiency king of the diesel compact sedans before the Maruti Swift Dzire. It still returns a very impressive 25.8 kmpl which ensures the Amaze is easy on your pockets and cheap to run. The Amaze remains a very capable car nonetheless and continues to sell in decent numbers.
There are various reason for the popularity of the Honda City, one of the major ones being the very healthy mileage it returns. However, with the launch of the updated 2017 model, it has slipped down to the tenth spot on our list of the best mileage cars in India. Also, its arch-rival, the Maruti Ciaz, is more fuel efficient and cheaper. In fact, the top end diesel Ciaz is cheaper than the top end City diesel by almost 4 lakhs!
The WR-V becomes the third consecutive Honda car on our list of the best mileage cars in India. Based on the Jazz, the WRV is a sub 4-meter crossover that rivals the likes of the Hyundai i20 Active, Fiat Avventura and also the Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport. It is powered by the same 1.5 L Diesel engine as the rest of Honda’s products.
Hyundai Grand i10’s sedan sibling, according to ARAI figures, is slightly more fuel efficient. Although it weighs more and has the same diesel engine, Hyundai claims it will return 25.4 KMPL overall. It also happens to be one of the better compact sedans on sale in India right now. The facelift has improved looks and much the updated 1.2 L Diesel is much better than the old 1.1 L unit in terms of performance.
Mahindra KUV100 has an overall fuel mileage of 25.32 kmpl. This makes it one of the Best Mileage cars in India. The KUV100 is tasked with fighting hatchbacks such as the Swift, Grand i10 etc. The KUV100 is a rather unconventional take on large hatchbacks. The SUV-inspired exterior gives it a very distinct look. The flexible 3+3 seating layout adds a touch of practicality to the cabin.
Powering the Kwid is a 799 cc Petrol engine. The Kwid returns a claimed mileage of 25.17 kmpl. The engine churns out 53 BHP of max. power and 72 Nm of peak torque. The Renault Kwid rivals the likes of the Maruti Alto 800, Hyundai Eon and the Datsun Redi-GO.
Sharing the 16th spot on the list of Best Mileage Cars In India is the Datsun Redi-GO. It is based on the same platform. Powering it is also the same engine. Hence, it has the same mileage. Manufacturing is also at the same facility. However, the design approach is totally different. And the Redi-GO boasts a tall boy design with high ground clearance and easy ingress and egress for the passengers.
At an ARAI certified fuel efficiency rating of 24.95 KMPL, the Hyundai Grand i10 comes in at number 17, a few places below its sedan sibling, on our list of the best mileage cars in India. One of the most popular offerings in its segment, the Grand i10 is based on the Euro-spec i10. Great looks, a good quality cabin and frugal engines are some of its key selling points.
At number 18 on our list is the all-new Hyundai Verna. With this year’s generation update, the Verna has ditched the 1.4-litre diesel engine. Now it only comes with the 1.6-litre diesel motor. This engine churns out 126 BHP along with 260 NM of peak torque. The power is transmitted to the front wheels with the help of a 6-speed manual transmission.
India’s highest selling car, the Alto 800, has an ARAI mileage of 24.72 KMPL. This makes the Alto 800 only a shade less frugal than the Kwid/Redi-Go. The CNG version has a claimed mileage of 33.44 km/kg.

The new boy in town, UM, directly locked its horns with Royal Enfield upon launch here. Their product lineup targeted customers directly from Royal Enfield’s hands. While making a boom with over 10,000 pre-bookings done online, UM failed to impress the public with the sales dropping soon enough. The UM Renegade is not a lousy product rather offers a great bang for the buck. Powering the cruiser is a 279cc engine making 25 hp and 23 Nm. The UM Renegade Classic range starts at INR 1.89 lakh in India.
Currently, the laugh of the town, the Suzuki Intruder 150 borrows its name from the legendary cruiser from the automaker. While the original Intruder is available with 800cc and above engines, the 150 simply seems awkward. The Intruder 150 borrows its underpinnings from the Gixxer and the 150 cc engine is good for 14.1 PS and 14 Nm. The quirky looks of the Suzuki cruiser were supposed to impress its customers but rather became a joke amongst the international media upon launch. With prices starting at INR 1.00 lakh, the Intruder 150 offers single-channel ABS as a standard fitment.
They call Bajaj Dominar 400, a ‘power cruiser’. Well, it lives up to its nickname as Dominar is truly a beast machine. Bajaj just updated its most powerful motorcycle with some visual changes, engine bump and minor feature additions. It borrows its engine from the Duke 390. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga comes with a new 1.5 L diesel in-house engine. Ertiga will be the second car after Ciaz to get a bigger diesel engine.
With the introduction of a more powerful diesel engine, Maruti has upped its MUV game for the Ertiga. The new 1.5L DDiS diesel engine churns out a power of 95bhp with a peak torque of 225Nm.
To lower the NVH levels, the new engine gets a dual mass flywheel. The new DDiS 225 will soon replace the on-going 1.3L DDiS 220 engine sourced by Fiat.
As the new Ertiga gets some changes under the hood, the interiors and the exteriors design remains identical to the older one. The new Ertiga gets a 6-speed manual transmission against the 5-speed manual transmission which is offered in the previous version.
Maruti introduced the 1.5L diesel engine in Ertiga to rival with its competitor, Mahindra Marazzo and Renault Lodgy. Let’s have a look at how Maruti Ertiga 1.5 competes with its competitors in terms of performance.
Here, we have considered the top end variant of all three cars:

The most efficient of the lot is the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga returning a mileage of 24.2 Km per litre. However, the 1.5L diesel motor churning out a power of 95bhp is the least powerful of the lot.
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga offers safety features like dual standard airbags, ABS with EBD and offers a warranty of 2 years or 40,000 km, whichever is at the earliest.
Lets have a look at the pricing of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga 1.5L and its competitors:

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga ZDI+ is the least expensive in its competition, thus a value for money product.
All the MPV’s above get dual standard airbags, ABS with EBD and a touchscreen infotainment system. The Ertiga misses out on DRL’s, roof rails and an option of 8-seater which its competition offers. Ertiga is available only in a 7-seater option.

When launched, the HR-V will rival against the likes of the Nissan Kicks, the Hyundai Creta and the Jeep Compass. The Honda HR-V is already on sale in many international markets where it is known as the Vezel.
Here we take a closer look at how the HR-V fares against the Hyundai Creta, the most popular SUV in this segment.

We pit the MG Hector against the quite popular Mahindra XUV500 to see how they fare against each other on paper.
MG Motors is all set to launch the new Hector in the Indian Market and it will be revealed on May 15, 2019. The company has already started mass production of the SUV at its Halol plant as was already reported earlier.
When launched, the Hector will rival against the likes of the newly launched Tata Harrier, the Jeep Compass and also the upcoming Hyundai Tuscon facelift.
Here we take a closer look at how the Hector fares against the XUV500, the most popular SUV in this segment.

The Hector will be powered by a 1.5L, turbocharged, petrol engine which produces 143 Bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. When compared to the Mahindra XUV500’s petrol engine, the latter is powered by a 2.2L, petrol engine producing 140 Bhp and 320 Nm of torque.
The MG Hector is slightly more powerful than the equivalent Mahindra XUV500 petrol and that too from a smaller engine. You can hence expect the Hector to be a bit more fuel efficient than the XUV500. However, the Mahindra XUV500 does have quite a lot more torque than the Hector. Both cars have 6-speed automatic while the Hector gets a manual too. The Hector will also come with the petrol engine mated to a mild-hybrid system, so expect even more fuel economy in that variant.

The Mahindra XUV500 comes with a bigger 2.2L mHawk diesel unit which produces 155 Bhp and 360 Nm of torque. Again, the Hector is slightly more powerful but torque figures are roughly the same. The Mahindra has the option of both manual and automatic transmissions while the MG only gets a manual.
In terms of dimensions, the Hector is slightly longer than the XUV500 and thus we can expect it to have a slightly longer wheelbase too. However, the XUV500 sits higher and is wider than the Hector.
MG Hector vs Mahindra XUV500 – Design
MG Hector
In terms of design, the Hector clearly has the edge over the XUV500. The XUV500 has been on Indian roads for quite some time now and its design has evolved over the years but is still quite rounded and plain. On the other hand, the MG Hector brings a fresh new design to the palate of mid-sized SUVs and it looks very contemporary with sharp lines and an upright stance.
On the interiors, while the Mahindra XUV500 comes decently well equipped, material quality does not feel all that good with a lot of hard touch plastics. The Hector on the other is loaded to the brim with smart technology and the materials used inside the car are also better than the XUV500. The Hector easily has the more premium cabin of the two.

In terms of dimensions, the Hyundai Venue is simply the same length as of Mahindra XUV300. However, the Venue is shorter and less wide than the XUV300. However, the Mahindra in spite of being the same length as the Hyundai, has a longer wheelbase.
In terms of design, both cars look quite attractive. Hyundai Venue sports a split headlight design which looks refreshing. It has perfect proportions and looks quite premium as well. The XUV300, considering it is from Mahindra, is a surprisingly good looking car too. The face particularly looks the best with the horizontal DRLs and quite a smart looking headlamp and grille cluster.
Mahindra XUV300
On the interiors, both cars are very well loaded with all the convenience features and the dashboard layout of both cars are pretty appealing too. Just like the exteriors, the interiors of the XUV300 is very well designed and feels a premium compact SUV with good quality of materials used.
However, the Hyundai Venue packs some more features like the large 8-inch infotainment system with the Blue link technology system. It means the car will get in-built apps, maps and navigation services and voice assistant, some of which the XUV300 misses out on.
It also gets wireless charging, keyless entry, push-button start, air purifier and more. The car also gets an eSIM based connectivity. On the interiors, the Venue clearly has the edge over the XUV300 with better appeal and features.
It would be really interesting to see how the Hyundai Venue stands against Mahindra XUV300 in some time to come in the market. The Venue has been introduced at a starting price of just Rs. 6.5 lakhs (ex-showroom) and it really undercuts the competition as the XUV300 has a starting price of Rs. 7.9 lakhs. It could very soon be the best selling SUV in the segment.

With their diesel engines, the Venue actually has the least powerful engine of the lot. It has similar power to the Brezza’s petrol engine and saves itself from the last position by producing 20Nm more torque than the Brezza’s engine. The XUV300 has the highest power and torque figures while the Nexon comes second followed by the Ford Ecosport in third position by quite a margin. However, Maruti will introduce the new 1.5L DDiS 225 diesel engine in the Brezza very soon. That engine produces 95 hp and 225 Nm of torque which will then relegate the Hyundai’s diesel engine to the last spot.
All the SUVs come with either a 5-speed or 6-speed gearbox mated to the diesel engines. The Tata Nexona and the Vitara Brezza have the advantage of being offered with AMT gearboxes along with their manual gearboxes.
The Hyundai Venue has been priced right in the middle of the competition. It starts of at Rs. 6.5 lakhs, just a tad higher than the Tata Nexon which has the cheapest starting price here but significantly lower than the Brezza. At the top end, it is quite cheaper than the Ford Ecosport and Mahindra XUV300 top trims and will certainly be able to attract those buyers as well.
In the end, the Hyundai Venue is an extremely value for money offering and Hyundai has absolutely nailed it with the features and looks. How it drives is another question and that would really determine the Venue’s place in the market but as of now, it sure seems to do well. Watch out for our comprehensive review of the Hyundai Venue which is coming very soon.
